ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effectiveness of repairing eyelids deformities caused by trauma with cosmetic surgery incisions.Methods:Retrospective analysis was conducted in 17 patients with eyelids deformities caused by trauma in Plastic and Cosmetic Center, School and Hospital of Stomatology, China Medical University from January 2016 to October 2018. The deformities included lower eyelid ectropion, scar contracture of endocanthion, displacement of the medial canthus ligament, displacement of external canthus. We used the incisions of blepharoplasty, modified Z-epicanthoplasty, and the cosmetic lateral canthoplasty. The surgeries included grafting of full-thickness skin from blepharoplasty to repair the defects after scar ectomy, anchoring of medial canthal ligament, suspending of lateral canthal ligament.Results:All the 17 patients had good appearance and normal functions of eyelids.Conclusions:It deserves well recommended for using cosmetic surgery incisions to repair eyelids deformities.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the activity of vitamin K-dependent gamma-glutamyl carboxylase in patients with calcium oxalate (CaOx) urolithiasis compared with healthy individuals and to assess its relationship to the renal calcium oxalate urolithiasis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Renal parenchymas were harvested from urolithic patients and renal tumor patients undergoing nephrectomy. The renal carboxylase activity was evaluated as the radioactivity of [(14)C] labeled sodium bicarbonate in carboxylic reactions in vitro using beta-liquid scintillation counting.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Significantly reduced activity of renal vitamin K-dependent gamma-glutamyl carboxylase was observed in the urolithic group as compared with normal controls (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>It suggests that the reduced carboxylase activity observed in the urolithic patients may play an important role in the course of renal calcium oxalate urolithiasis.</p>

ABSTRACT

The expression of multidrug resistant proteins in bladder cancer and clinical implication was studied. Expression of multidrug-associated protein (MRP), P-glycoprotein (P-gp), P53 and Bcl-2 proteins were detected by using immunohistochemical method in 40 specimens of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. The results showed that the positive rate of MRP, P-gp, P53 and Bcl-2 was 52.5 %, 57.5 %, 47.5 % and 62.5 % respectively. The positive rate of MRP, P-gp, P53 and Bcl-2 in the grade Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ of tumors was 46.3 %, 38.5 %, 38.5 %, 23.1 %; 52.9 %, 39.8 %, 47.1 %, 76.4 %; 60.0 %, 80.0 %, 60.0 %, 90.0 % respectively. The positive rate of MRP, P-gp, P53 and Bcl-2 in 24 primary tumor specimens was 37.5 %, 41.7 %, 33.3 %, 45.8 % and that in 16 cases in recurrent specimens receiving chemotherapy 75.0 %, 81.3 %, 68.8 %, 87.5 % respectively. It was suggested the positive rate of MRP, P-gp, P53 and Bcl-2 was increased with the advance of tumor grade. The positive rate of four proteins in all recurrent cases was significantly increased (P<0.05). The expression of MRP, P-gp, P53 and Bcl-2 proteins might be the important factors for chemotherapy failure.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study and evaluate the inhibitory role of ?-carboxyglutamic acid(Gla)in the Gla domain of prothrombin in the formation of calcium oxalate crystals. Methods The addition of morpholine and formaldehyde to the solution of prothrombin caused the conversion of 8 Gla to ?-methyleneglutamic acid (8?-MGlu)or 2 Gla to ?-methyleneglutamic acid(2?-MGlu) ,the inhibitory activity of which to calcium oxalate crystallization was detected with seeded crystallization technique. Results The conversion of Gla to ?-MGlu leads to the decreased inhibitory activity of prothrombin to calcium oxalate crystallization,the inhibitory index being decreased from normal 14.2 to 12.8 of 2?-MGlu or 5.0 of 8 ?-MGlu prothrombin respectively. Conclusions Gla in prothrombin may play an important role to inhibit the formation of calcium oxalate calculi.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the role of Gla-bound protein and its Gla residue in urinary lithogenesis. Methods Calcium oxalate crystal matrix was produced by calcium oxalate supersaturation crystallization in fresh urine of normal subjects and calcium oxalate stone formers. Protein-bound Gla was determined in the crystal matrix and urine of normal subjects and in the calcium oxalate stone formers by high performance liquid chromatography. Results Protein-bound Gla in the crystal matrix and urine of calcium oxalate stone formers were significantly less than that of normal subjects. Conclusions Highly carboxylated Gla-bound proteins are inhibitory factors of calcium oxalate calculus. Insufficient carboxylation of urinary Gla-bound proteins may be correlated with urinary lithogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Objectives To detemline whether apoptotic cell death is involved in rat cardiac allograft rejection and investigate the relevance of apoptosis with acute rejection and its implication.Methods Groups of Wistar rats underwent heterotopic heart transplantation from allogeneic SD or syngeneic Wistar rats.The cardiac grafts were harvested at 1,3,5,or 7 days after transplantation and underwent the detection of apoptotic cell death using in situ terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling(TUNEL).Histopathological rejeclion grade and apoptotic index(AI)were analyzed.Results The incidence of apoptotic cells was increased steadily over time in allografts,in contrast to syngeneic grafts.The apoptotic cells in allografts were mainly cardiac myocytes and few infiltrating lymphocytes.The AI of rejection grade 1,2,3 and 4 was significantly higher than that of rejection grade 0(P<0.01).Conclusions TUNEL can display apoptosis of single cell in situ.Apoptosis is an important mechanism of tissue injury in acute cardiac allograft rejection in rats.Myocyte apoptosis can be used as a valuable index to estimate the injury of grafts and monitor acute rejection.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect of Toxoplasma gondii infection on immune function of the rat recipients and onset of Toxoplasmosis after heart transplantation and its correlation with the use of Cyclosporin A(CsA). Methods ELISA was used to detect recipient's specific circulating antigen (CAg) and antibodies (IgG, IgM) after the transplantation. T lymphocyte subsets in peripheral blood were examined by using immunofluorescence stain and flow cytometry (FCM) before and after heart allograft 5,10,15,20 days in rats. Results The use of CsA increased the risk of infection by T. gondii and accelerated the increase of CD8 + T lymphocyte after the transplantation. The incidence of donor acquired T.gondii infection was higher than that of reactivated silent infection in recipients before operation. The percentage of CD8 + T lymphocyte was evidently elevated due to the onset of toxoplasmosis and the ratio CD4 +/CD8 + was reduced or inverted in the meanwhile. Conclusion The immune suppression after use of CsA was the main reason leading to an activation of the silent infection of T.gondii . CD8 + was the main cytotoxic cell elevated during the infection.
